Breaking News: Fans are somewhat creepy
I’ve always wondered how spoilers for TV shows like Survivor get out. I always assumed that production assistants and interns, the lowest people on the totem pole in television production, were the ones leaking spoilers, as they are usually fans. However, I was reading an excerpt from Henry Jenkins’s book “Convergence Culture”, specifically, his first chapter titled...

Blog Action Day 2010: Water
Today is Blog Action Day and the topic for 2010 is Water:
Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
The Blog Action Day people broke it down into four main issues:
The problem of scarce clean water: Nearly 1 billion people lack access to clean water, which causes a litany of struggles, diseases...

geekXmarketing conference: Good idea or GREATEST...
I just had the best idea.
We need to start a Toronto geekXmarketing conference. It’ll be like TEDXTO, except all the panels will be about the intersection of marketing and geek culture.
Jane McGonigal, of TED Talks “Gaming can make a better world” fame, should be the keynote speaker.
Jon Crowley will give the presentation “How Magic the Gathering taught me everything I...

Yet another Twitter 101 post (but this one is...
I’ve had a few people notice my recently uber-active Twitter account and subsequent increase in followers. They’ve all said they’d like to use Twitter more, but don’t understand how to get from just following their friends and Ellen DeGeneres to a diverse, active, useful and entertaining Twitter account.
This topic has been covered approximately...

I'm going to BLISSDOM CANADA!
I’m trying to decide which sessions to go to at BLISSDOM CANADA OH GOD SO EXCITED. Content I: If a Blog Falls in the Forest? : How to get your blog to make a sound and Content II: Kicking It Up A Notch: How to be a Content Creating Ninja. Both of these sound pretty good. I would go to either one, so I’ll probably just tag along to whichever one Sara Hamil is going to (She’s...
Introductions
ssanjusays:
So I’m sitting in a course right now & we’re doing self introductions for the prof to get to know us/shamelessly creep peoples interests and goals. A chunk of the room is all about studying business and English and getting into law school. She gets to me and I reply:
“Hello! I’m Andrew. Short term goals include not overworking myself to the point of becoming a vodka scented...
Netflix launches in Canada →
Words cannot express how excited I am for this. I have been waiting for Netflix to enter the Canadian market since I first heard of them in the U.S. years ago.
The best part is that you can stream content through an iPhone app. Sorry friends, I will no longer be hanging out with human beings or having any kind of social life. I will be catching up on all the TV I’ve missed since canceling...

Can't nobody hold them down
Can I just say that 2NE1 should rule the world? Seriously. These ladies are AMAZING.
I submit for proof, their latest music video “Can’t Nobody.” Being a Kpop group, the original music video is set to the Korean version of this song, but a helpful Youtube person combined the music video with the English version. The song was half in English and half in Korean to begin with, but...
We wants it, my precious...
A few days ago I got to play with a Samsung Galaxy phone. Oh my, that thing is pretty. I don’t know much about the technical specs, but it looked and worked enough like an iPhone that I could see myself making the switch seamlessly. And I’m a pretty die-hard iPhone fan. One thing in it’s favour: The Galaxy S Pro comes with a full qwerty keyboard.

Osaka subway
@SarahChun tweeted a comparison between the subway system in Seoul, Korea versus Toronto’s TTC.
It’s funny how disappointing the TTC was when I moved to Toronto from my home town. At the time, my home town didn’t even has buses, so anything should have been an improvement. But I had just come back from a semester studying abroad in Osaka, Japan. Let me should you the Osaka...
